Toyon
The Toyon is Humboldt State University English department’s multilingual journal of literature and art that is edited and produced, since its inception in 1954, by Humboldt State University students from all disciplines. Toyon showcases the work of established and emerging writers and artists from Humboldt County and all over the world.
All submissions are considered for the awards associated with Toyon. Including the Jody Stutz Award, the Richard Cortez Day Advisor's Prize, the Toyon Staff Award, the Redwood Empire Mensa Award, the Multilingual Award, and McGaughey. The award recipients of these awards are given cash prizes to support their literary and artistic efforts, along with the prestige of publication in the journal.

Matrix (previously WomaNotes)
The Matrix provides a space for the expression of feminist ideas, and the many forms that it comes in. Including but not limited to: poetry, fiction, news, politics and art. The Matrix staff accepts submissions from everyone willing to submit, there is no need to be a student or alumni.The Matrix has also been recognized as one of the top college publications by The Nation magazine, and has loyal readers all over the country.
The Humboldt Edge
On their website the Humboldt Edge states that they are "a street paper that honors and invites the wisdom, knowledge and creative expression of people living on the street, experiencing homelessness and/or living on the edge economically. By empowering and educating both contributors and readers, the production and distribution of this monthly paper serves to counter the marginalization, stigmatization and silencing of people in poverty."
The Cultural Times
The Multicultural Center focuses on exploring identity and history, experiencing cultures and traditions, expressing feelings, ideas and observations, empowering each other to advocate for social justice, and engaging to build and sustain community. The Cultural Times newsletter centers on this same ideology. The Multicultural Center accepts submissions from all those who are willing to submit.
