English majors and minors, along with graduate students in the M.A. program in Applied English Studies at Humboldt State University are encouraged to join APT, the English Club. Eligible students are also encouraged to join Sigma Tau Delta, the national honor society.

To apply for membership in Sigma Tau Delta, ensure that you meet eligibility requirements and then enclose the following in a single application packet:
- Confer distinction for high achievement in English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies;
- Provide, through its local chapters, cultural stimulation on college campuses and promote interest in literature and the English language in surrounding communities;
- Foster all aspects of the discipline of English, including literature, language, and writing;
- Promote exemplary character and good fellowship among its members;
- Exhibit high standards of academic excellence; and
- Serve society by fostering literacy.
To apply for membership in Sigma Tau Delta, ensure that you meet eligibility requirements and then enclose the following in a single application packet:
- complete the application form,
- enclose a printed copy of your unofficial transcript demonstrating that you meet eligibility requirements,
- enclose your national membership fee of $45 (checks made payable to the HSU English Department Trust). If you need financial help covering this membership fee, please see below for more information about funding support.
